Three Minutes to Live

You are out driving on a country road and you come upon a bad accident. I’m alone in my car and I’ve run off the road where I hit a tree and a branch has impaled me. You are the first one to come upon the accident. You realize that an ambulance will never get to me in time. I’m bleeding badly and you estimate from my wound that I have three minutes to live. What do you say to me?

Well if you are an atheist, I assume you ask me if I have a message that I want to get to a loved one or a friend. Other than that, I can’t imagine how an atheist would comfort me in my last moments on this earth.

What if you are a Muslim, Buddhist, Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness or Roman Catholic? What do you say to comfort me? Since these are all works based religions, you know there is no way that I can do enough good works in three minutes to make difference. You know I will never leave the car, so in your mind I’m doomed.

Maybe instead you are a “typical” or “casual” Christian who follows a modern day leader such as Rob Bell, Joel Osteen or TD Jakes. All you’ve ever heard before is that God has a wonderful plan for your life. How do you convince me that God has a wonderful plan for my life? I’m dying in approximately three minutes. There is no wonderful plan for my life (not at least on this earth).

Finally, what if you are a born again, devout follower of Jesus Christ? What do you say to me? We’ll in three minutes (or less) you can share with me that God made me and that God has given me every breath of my life. You can point out that I’ve sinned in the past – that I’ve lied, probably stolen something that didn’t belong to me, probably used God’s name in vain at one time or another; that if I had ever looked at a woman with lust that God considers that adultery of the heart.

You would probably point out to me that you had only gone over four of the 10 Commandments and that if I had broken any of them I was guilty of breaking them all. Then you would lovingly tell me that the punishment for breaking even one of the 10 Commandments was eternal punishment in a very real place called Hell. The Bible tells us that it is appointed to men to die once, but after this the judgment. You’d point out that I am going to stand before God on Judgment Day and that He would find me guilty of breaking the 10 Commandments. The punishment for that guilt is eternity in Hell.

Now I’m not going to want to hear this with only a minute or two left of my life. But it is the sobering truth. Then you tell me that was the bad news, but wait, there’s Good News! God sent his son Jesus to walk this earth 2,000 years ago and He lived a perfect, sinless life. Jesus didn’t sin in thought, word or deed. He was beat beyond recognition and then died a horribly painful death on the cross. On the third day He rose again. Jesus did two things we cannot do: 1. He lived a sinless life 2. He came back from the dead. Jesus defeated sin and death.

If we repent and believe the Gospel, God will grant us eternal life. Our sins can be forgiven and we will go to Heaven when we die instead of to Hell (which we deserve). Salvation is a free gift from God and we accept this wonderful gift by turning away from our sins and putting our faith in Jesus. Now I have 30 seconds left. I have time to ask God to forgive me from my sins, repent (this starts in your mind and your heart) and surrender my life to Jesus. I say a heartfelt prayer, get right with God and breath my last breathe.

Now put yourself in my shoes in this example. You have three minutes to live. What are you going to do? Are you going to stick with your atheist views? Become agnostic (which still won’t help you)? Choose Mohammad, Buddha, Joseph Smith (Mormonism) or Charles Taze Russell (Jehovah’s Witnesses)? Or if you only had three minutes to live would you choose Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? If you would choose Jesus with only three minutes to live, why don’t you go ahead and choose Him today? The Bible says today is the day of salvation. Don’t put this off. Some day, you really will have three minutes to live, but most of us will never know when those last three minutes are. Choose life and choose it today. Our lives are but a vapor. Repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ.

Springfield Christmas Parade

I love this time of year. Not because of the tree hung with ornaments. Not because of the presents under that same tree. Not even the snow, Reindeers, Santa Clause, eggnog, colorful lights, mistletoe, and the great food is no reason for me to look forward this time of year.
It’s about God’s glory in the redemption of man.
Matthew 1:21-23
“And she shall bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for it is he that shall save his people from their sins. Now all this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel; which is, being interpreted, God with us. “

Yes, Forever Loved

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

Mark the expression, “He loved ME!”
Not my sins;
not my many transgressions;
not my willfulness, waywardness and obstinacy;
not my past life of ingratitude and provocation!
No! He looked upon all these with righteous and holy abhorrence! He hated all these things–but He loved ME–He loved my soul.

And what proof did He give of this? The Apostle answers, “He loved me–and gave Himself for me!” Oh wondrous gift! He did not give . . .
His kingdom,
nor His crown,
nor His glory,
nor His boundless wealth!
He gave up these indeed, for “though He was rich, yet for our sakes He became poor, that we, through His poverty, might become rich!” But marvelous grace, “He gave Himself!” He gave Himself . . .
to Pilate’s skewed judgment,
to Herod’s cruel mockery,
to the soldiers’ debased scorn,
to the people’s mad frenzy!

And there He hung between two thieves–His piercing cry rending the blackened vault above, “My God, my God–why have You forsaken Me!”
There He hung–His face marred more than any man’s!
There He hung–His head, His hands, and His feet pierced and bleeding, torn and mangled, with the iron fangs and the thorny crown!
There He hung–under the frown of Heaven!
There He hung–cast out by the world–the taunt and sneer of the passer-by, and the song of the drunkard in the street!
He gave Himself to this!

Oh, the love of God! Oh the grace of Jesus! Oh that these words were written on the portals of the sky, in the hues of the rainbow and the brightness of the sun–so that every Christian on earth might read them: “He loved me–and gave Himself for me!” Precious, precious words!

Christian! Perhaps you look back on your past life and see it stained with crimes of the deepest dye. You see your sins–the very thought of which suffuses your countenance with a blush! You see your . . .
sins against light,
willful sins,
secret sins,
open sins–
a multitude of sins which no man can number, rising like a mountain to your view–and you are ready to exclaim, “Can God love me? Impossible!” Yes, He does–He loves you! He hated all these things–but He loved you, and loves you still. “He loved you–and gave Himself for you!”

The secret of my love to You
By time and change unmoved,
Its spring, its steadfastness, is this:
I know that I am loved!

Forever! Yes, forever loved,
And evermore to be,
In ages past, in days to come,
Throughout eternity!

Pro-Life/Anti-Murder or Love for the Creator?

20111206-105638.jpg

I’m a Blessed man. Before God graciously saved me, He gave me my wife and children. I look back and sometimes think about where Paul says in Romans 2:4, “do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?”
God was patient with me and opened my eyes to the truth of the Gospel. His kindness was and is still to this day very evident to me.
I couldn’t imagine my life without my family surrounding me. My children are a very intricate part of my world.
That’s why it astounds me to see people abuse, mistreat and sadly murder their own child. It seems like an endless stream of violence against children that permeates the news. There is shock in our conversations of how someone could be so cold as to do that to a defenseless child. There is mourning in innocence lost. You can hear a massive cry for justice coming from the public.
“What a wicked act!”
“I hope they catch who ever did this!” “They should get the death penalty for such a crime! ”
The seeking for justice is right, justice is good.
But we in our fallen condition our need for justice becomes demanding. So demanding is our need for justice-that in the past angry mobs would rise, capture who they knew to be the culprit and hang them. In some cases innocent lives were taken in the deluge of madness that ensued the crowd. Because the mere thought of a murderer escaping apprehension is deplorable to a society. People are outraged when all confidence is lost in the Justice System. In some cases, where the courts failed, families found justice by unjust means. Seeing that the perpetrator and punishment meet in another wicked act.
The Bible confirms that murder is a sin, punishable by death: A life for a life, those who live by the sword die by the sword.
Nevertheless, we ourselves can sin in response to the sin of murder.
1 Peter 3:9 “Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.”
Or, Romans 12:19 “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
Vengeance is not the answer and God forbids it. We take matters of justice in our own hands we are showing lack of confidence in the promises of God. We go through the legal means in which God has established over our nation. (Romans13:1-7)
I’m saying all of that assuming the person reading this post is a clear thinking Christian that is avidly a pro-life supporter.
That is why I can’t understand these people that call themselves a Christian and bomb Abortion Clinic’s and brutally murder abortion doctors. Which according to God’s word doesn’t really show the fruit’s of the spirit found in Galatians chapter 5. “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”
Not to say that only Christians are pro-life. I know this because, before I was saved the subject of abortion for my wife and I, had never been an option. But with the media promoting the normalcy of the “procedure”. My mind was stretched with all sorts of dilemma’s including rape or incest. Perhaps the mother’s life is at risk or the baby could have some terrible handicap-on and on. I could have been persuaded to pro-choice very easily. God wasn’t my source of good moral choices.
I was tossed to and fro in my convictions and ethics.
It’s a baby…
It’s a fetus or a blob of tissue…
The baby is fully aware….
It has no clue of its surroundings…
I felt as if my convictions were seated on loose sand. Why was I pro choice?
Where to begin?
Well, lets begin with what is in the womb?
I have been presented with all sorts medical facts that proves that what’s in the womb is a child.
18 days – heart begins to beat.
42 days – brain waves recorded, skeleton complete, reflexes present.
18 weeks – vocal cords work – can cry.
9 weeks – squints, swallows, moves tongue, makes fist.
11 weeks – spontaneous breathing movements, has fingernails, all body systems working. (click)
That sounds like a child to me.
The bible, Gods word, even says that it’s a child. The goes on to say that God knew our name even before we were born.
Psalm 139:13-16
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. ”
Mary was visiting her cousin Elizabeth in Luke 1:41-44 while pregnant with John the Baptist at that time. The child in her womb leaped with joy when she heard Mary the mother of Jesus greet everyone.
There is even more references in the Bible that says the unborn is human.
I’m left with no choice, abortion is the murder of a child. Legalized murder!
So now I ask you. Where is the publics massive cry for justice!?
Very few are shouting, “What a wicked act!”
And the people who do raise their voices saying abortion is murder are looked on as insensitive monsters. Why you ask? Because a woman who was raped by her father would have to be reminded of the horrific moment in her life every time she looked at the baby. The child would suffer because the mother needed to finish school or couldn’t afford to care for the child. The list is endless with grave scenario’s.
All of a sudden everything is flipped on its head. They recognize whats in the womb as a child, but purposely hide the child under their wants, desires or sadly pain. None of which constitutes the death of a child. Their reasoning seems much like the tea party of the mad hatter in Alice in Wonderland. It makes no sense whatsoever!
What of the brutal murder of the defenseless child in the mothers womb!? The safest place in the world for the unborn child has become a graveyard.
Ray Comfort put a video out called 180 movie.

20111206-111133.jpg ( www.180movie.com) In the video Ray brought an amazing comparison to the abortion with the horrors of WW2 Nazi Jewish genocide. From the Nazi perspective it was the elimination of the undesirable and the weak. The people that they murdered were not seen as human to them. They were no more than a blob of tissue.
The comparison in so uncanny it’s unreal. The devaluing of life is a part of the fall. The hallmark of our sin nature. To love ones self more than, GOD.
Genesis 1:27 is the creation of mankind. That man was created in the image of God. Image meaning a image barer or a representative of God. That we are made to manifest His glory.
But in chapter 3 of Genesis we sinned against God and we see the effects of it to this day.
I bring this up to inform you as I was informed. That God values life. He has created all life and to take life is a direct assault to God. That’s why God established laws to govern over His people. Exodus 21:12,14; Numbers 35:16-21, 30-33; Leviticus 24:17″Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death.”
Then God also said in Revelation 22:15 “Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”
God sees murder as so serious that he will punish all murders. The offense is directed, whether they believe it or not, at the creator.
If we, as Christians, are specifically made to manifest Gods glory. 2 Corinthians 6:16
The practice of abortion should be abhorrent to we who are believers. The purpose of a Christian is Glorify God and bring Him Glory.
We should not only be pro-life but love the Creator so much that the protection of life, especially the weak and defenseless in the womb, as an act of highest offense to God. It is an act of an unbeliever.
But even that can be forgiven by God. He saves all who come to Him.
Liars, thieves, fornicators and yes even murders can be forgiven by God and him alone.
Because God has provided away to forgive His creation of their offences to Him. Through the person and work of his son Jesus Christ. By dying on a cross for our sins. Where we should rightfully be paying the full measure of our debt. Which is eternity in Hell. ALL PAY in full on the cross. No longer a murder but a child of God. This news should humble you. This lovingkindness speaks volumes, Romans 2:4, “do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?”
Turn to Him, trust in Him and He will save you.

OccupyEvangelism

Occupy is all over the news. It started with OccupyWallStreet. I think they say that 1% of American’s have all the wealth in our country and the protesters represent the other 99% of us.

Then Occupy spread around the country and the world. We even have OccupySpringfield. I’m not sure what OccupySpringfield is actually protesting (in fact I’m not sure the organizers here locally agree on what they are protesting). But people are fed up with how things currently are, so they want to protest.

At Born of Him Ministries, we are fed up too. Only 2% of professing Christians share their faith with others. This is horrendous. If we really believe the Bible (and we do), we should shudder at the thought of anyone going to Hell. Charles Spurgeon said, “If sinners will be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies, and if they perish, let them perish with our arms around their knees imploring them to stay. If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let no one go there unwarned or unprayed for.”

If you are not part of the 2%, then please join us. The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. If you are already part of the 2% invite one other person to join us. If each one of us that are already a part of the 2% invited one person to evangelize with us, we’d instantly double that number to 4%. With exponential growth, you can see how quickly God could change things working through us in a very practical way. People pray for a revival, but revival starts with us obeying the Great Commission! Be bold! Join us in OccupyEvangelism!

Why Does Jesus Offend?

The ministry partners and friends of Born of Him Ministries frequently go out witnessing. We hand out gospel tracts, get into one on one conversations and do open-air preaching. While we are doing evangelism, we frequently run into people who get offended at the name of Jesus or merely looking at a large cross. Why is that? Why do people get offended by the name of Jesus?

Recently we were at the mall on Black Friday and a 16 year old kid that was with us got upon the box to do open-air preaching for the first time. There was a crowd of about 25 people and he stood up and told the crowd that he wanted read them the Christmas story found in Matthew 1:18-25. When he started reading the story, around four or five people started singing Jingle Bells to drown him out. Why was reading the birth of Jesus so offensive? It’s a wonderful story.

Another ministry partner sometimes carries a large cross when we go out witnessing. On one side of the cross it says, “Are You Ready?” and on the other side it says “Turn From Dead Works.” People yell and cuss him out when they drive by or walk by him while he’s carrying the cross. Why is the cross so  offensive to some people? The cross is a wonderful reminder of the unbelievable sacrifice that Jesus made for Christians.

When we do open-air preaching we frequently run into hecklers who encourage us to stop, argue with us or try to distract us. They don’t want to hear the glorious Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The heckling comes from men and women, young and old alike. Some of the most vicious heckling comes from professing Christians. Again, why does it make people so mad to hear the name of Jesus? This name is the sweetest name on earth. So why on earth is it so offensive?

Why does the name of Jesus so offend some people? The Bible tells us that men love the darkness rather than light (John 3:19). In other words, people love their sins; the Bible goes so far as to say that people love their evil deeds (John 3:19).  John 3:20 goes on to say, “For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”  Unregenerate people love their sins. They do not want to be rebuked by God. They hate the light.

Jesus described Himself as the Light of the world (John 8:12). Light shines brightly in the dark and reveals what was hidden. We all have a God-given conscience. The mere mention of the name Jesus convicts some unsaved people that they are sinners. Looking upon the cross reminds some people that they have never bowed the knee at the cross of our Lord and Savior.

People get so mad about Jesus because they know that they are sinners and that their sin is repulsive to God. If you are one of those people, please don’t continue in your rebellion against our Holy God. Turn away from your sins and surrender your life fully to our wonderful Savior Jesus Christ. Do this today and instead of being offended by the sweetest name on earth, you will be overjoyed knowing that Jesus has saved you from your sins. Then you will love the Light; you will love the wondrous name of Jesus.
